Guest Speaker: Daniel Marcotte

Earlier this month, Netsoc had the privilege of hosting Daniel Marcotte, CTIO and CISO of Indigo Books and Music, and CEO of Meta LEAD, who joined us in the Hacker Research Lab at Ontario Tech to talk about his journey in cybersecurity and discuss the ransomware attack that Indigo was hit by in February 2023.

Over 40 students joined us to gain the insight of the most senior security official in the organization and learn about the types of decisions that executives have to make during these critical incidents.

Indigo was infected with LockBit software, and while the company is not certain of the identity of the group who deployed the software in their network, the LockBit ransomware-as-a-service group has recently claimed responsibility for a data breach of the Canadian government.
